Signal and Noise is a visualization of the term signal-to-noise ratio, as well as the idea that a noise to one person is a signal to another. Images of functioning and abandoned objects and structures in various states of decay and disrepair express a Japanese notion of wabi-sabi, the appreciation of impermanence, imperfection, and simplicity. In this series of tonal paintings, visual noise amplifies the passage of time, and the bleak side of ordinary landscapes.
